Graduate Residence Hall Directors

The position of GA-Residence Hall Director is a 10-month, live-in position for graduate students.  The GA-RHD is responsible for the day-to-day operations of at least one of nine residence halls and/or historic houses.  The GA-RHD supervises a staff of Resident Assistants (RAs), and Desk Assistants (DAs), and monitors maintenance/custodial concerns.  The GA-RHD also serves as an on-site counselor/facilitator for residents and is responsible for the management of the building and residents when the College is officially open as well as during breaks (such as Winter and Spring).

**This position requires availability during nights, weekends, holidays, departmental events, Fall and Spring Break, Residence Hall closure due to weather, and for training prior to classes beginning for both the Fall and Spring semesters**

Requirements  

  • Must be enrolled in a graduate degree program  
  • Must have and maintain at least a 3.0 GPA

Time Commitment

Administrative Work

The GRHD position is approximately 20 hours of work a week. Which includes, weekly staff and supervision meetings, team development meetings, community building and programming, following up on students of concern, maintenance issues, and conduct.

On-Call

GRHDs will participate in a rotating on-call schedule beginning in August with early move-in, until after commencement in May when all students move out.  There is always an RHD on-call including when classes are not in session (i.e. fall, spring, winter breaks, storm cancellations dates, etc.)

Training

There will be intensive training at the beginning of each appointment in late July/early August. Additional training may be scheduled throughout the year.

Length of Service

This position appointment is from mid-July through mid-May (one academic year). During the spring semester, GRHDs can reapply for the RHD position for the upcoming academic year.
